Simple Drool Bib Hack for Special Needs

Spread the love

Learning this simple drool bib hack for my special needs child was a huge game changer. It’s super easy, but makes for less work than cloths “made for” catching drool. Unfortunately, this wasn’t something I was shown how to do well enough for one to really last or stay on until Aubby was about age three. Since it came to mind as a subject, I’m writing this up for you.

What’s Needed To Assemble Simple Drool Bibs

To assemble this drool bib hack, you’ll need a handkerchief and a washcloth– or, hey, could be a particularly absorbent sock, whatever, if you’re in a pinch and aren’t worried about backpack stuffing them for school use. It’s the washcloth put in the center that makes this hack work. The washcloth might make it a little bulky, but when the handkerchief’s tied not-too-tight but not-too-loose, it sits really well under the chin.

The handkerchiefs we use are ones like (AFFILIATE LINK) TSD Story 12-count multipurpose bandanas, and the washcloths we use are (AFFILIATE LINK) Mainstays Basic 18-count.

How To REALLY Fold Simple Drool Bibs

  1. Lay out a bandana so it is a flat square.
  2. Place a washcloth in the middle of the square diagonally.
  3. Fold the washcloth into a smaller layered strip.
  4. Fold the bandana diagonally so it covers the washcloth.
  5. Starting with the larger end, fold the handkerchief until it’s about two more folds away from the point — when tied on, the loose point should be on the outer side.

And you’re finished!

I know this trick isn’t particularly “hacky”, but learning it made a huge difference in whether my daughter’s shirt collars got chewed on or drooled on to the point she was wet to her waist in front. That washcloth makes a BIG difference.
